Tour de SoCal

Week ending Sep 20, 2026
Abe takes Highlands off Jose
The numbers are in and they are talking. Jose held Highlands coming into this week and does not hold it now. Abe went 9:30. 15 seconds is all that stood between Oscar and Randee on Temple Hills. Ali slid 2 places down the GC without touching a bike wrong. Just got out-ridden. Quail Hill Sprint Climb beat Randee once this week. Not dramatic, just quietly humiliating. Ali, Jake, Randee, Abe, Jose and Oscar have each spent the season attacking a segment they still do not hold.
THE POLL RESULTS
4000 meter is gone. You voted to drop the dangerous one, and 4000 meter is out. The standings above are already computed without it, so this is not a preview. Twenty segments now. Not one GC position changed because of it, but everybody's time came down and some of you did better out of that than others. Your own card below has the details.
Torrey Pines stays. The vote on segments outside Orange County went to keeping them. Torrey Pines survives, so the drive south still counts for something.
Driving to the start is legal. Officially fine to put the bike on the car and drive to a segment. Abe, consider this your amnesty. You have been doing it all season and now there is nothing anybody can say about it.
Drafting is legal. Allowed, on the grounds that policing it is impossible. If you can find a wheel, sit on it.
Last place buys. Whoever is last on GC when the season closes on 31 December buys pizza and beers for everyone. Location to be argued about nearer the time. As of tonight that is Randee.
Randee, about that. Since this site went live you have logged ten weight training sessions and eight road rides. Four runs. Two trail runs. Three rock climbs. One sail. On Saturday the whole Tour de SoCal crew went out, the ride left from your house, and you were not on it. You are leading the polka dot jersey and sitting last on GC, which is a hard thing to manage on purpose. That used to look like bad luck. It is starting to look like a change of sport.

On the table

What you would save by riding segments you have skipped, at your own usual pace. A segment with no time on it this year is scored at the slowest time plus ten percent.

Segments that changed hands

Abe took Highlands off Jose by 22 seconds, in 9:30.

New segment bests

Tried and failed

New power bests

Changes to the segment list

Removed 4000 meter. Times set on it no longer count towards anything.
Every GC total in this email has been recalculated over the new list, so gaps will have moved for reasons that have nothing to do with this week's riding.

The jersey races

The leader rides along the top line and everyone else hangs below, so a line touching the top is a lead change. Tap either one to watch the season play out.

Shame of the week

JoseJose, who let Abe take Highlands off him by 22 seconds.
He held it coming into this week. He does not hold it now.

Individual assessments, delivered without affection

JOSE
Five rides, 124 miles and 5,833 feet. You hit Portola KOM Climb once and did not improve. New best 20 min power at 273 watts. Abe took Highlands off you by 22 seconds this week. You held that one coming in and you do not hold it now. One fewer thing to avoid: 4000 meter is off the board and you never did ride it. Nobody has beaten you on nine of the twenty.
OSCAR
Up to two on GC this week, from three. Seven rides, 95 miles and 5,328 feet. First time down Bluebird/Summit in 11:22. Two personal bests this week. You went at Temple Hills once and finished 15 seconds behind Randee. You did take a personal best out of it. That is close enough to be annoying and close enough to fix. Jose is 15:07 up the road in first. That is one good segment, not a rebuild. On a typical segment you finish within 4 percent of the fastest time set. You are closer to the front than the table suggests.
ABE
Up to three on GC this week, from five. Five rides, 123 miles and 6,296 feet. First time down Highlands in 9:30. New best 5 min power at 308 watts. You took Highlands off Jose by 22 seconds, in 9:30. That segment is yours until somebody comes and gets it. Once at Jeronimoooo! this week and no improvement. 0:53 still stands, 7 seconds off Oscar. 4000 meter has been removed. You were being penalised on it and now you are not, which is the laziest time you will gain all year. There is time. There is not unlimited time.
ALI
Down to four on GC this week. Two was yours seven days ago. Four rides, 85 miles and 4,718 feet. You went at Portola KOM Climb once this week and did not beat your own 4:16, which is still 24 seconds off Abe and Jose. One segment out of eighteen ridden has your name on it. One. Check your mirrors. Jake sits 1:50 back.
JAKE
Down to five on GC this week. Four was yours seven days ago. Three rides, 74 miles and 4,190 feet. You took 14 seconds off Starcrest, down to 4:46. Two personal bests this week. 4000 meter came off the list this week and you were the fastest man on it. That one is gone and it is not coming back. Ridgeline Dr - Turtle Rock Dr Stop Sign once this week, still 18 seconds off Abe. You did take a personal best out of it. He has not had to respond yet. Pacific Island South is the single most expensive thing you are not doing, at roughly 5:34, and it is one of five you have skipped all year. 103 days is long enough to fix this and short enough to run out.
RANDEE
Three rides, 71 miles and 6,906 feet. You hit Temple Hills once and did not improve. Bad news aimed squarely at you: 4000 meter has been removed, and it was yours. Everyone else lost a segment. You lost a win. You went at Quail Hill Sprint Climb once this week and did not beat your own 2:14, which is still 2 seconds off Jake. 198 rides, 262 hours, top of the pile on volume. That is a season nobody can argue with.
Stop missing segments by accident. Two minutes, once:

1. Star all 20 segments on Strava. They are all linked from the site. Starred segments sync to your head unit.
2. Turn on Live Segments on your Garmin or Wahoo. It warns you before one starts and counts you down through it, so you know you are on the clock instead of finding out on Sunday.

A segment you never knew you were riding is scored as a DNS, and a DNS costs the slowest time plus ten percent.

Standings as of 8:30 PM Pacific on Sun 20 Sep. Everything is scoped to the 2026 season. tourdesocal.com
