Oscar takes Pacific Island North off Jose
Another week, another set of receipts. Oscar took Pacific Island North off Jose by 44 seconds, 9:54. That one has a new owner. Jose took 1:50 off Highlands and set 9:52. That is a proper improvement, not a rounding error. 11 seconds is all that stood between Jake and Randee on Torrey Pines. Abe dropped 1 place. Not from riding badly, from other people riding at all. Ali went at Portola KOM Climb once and came away with nothing. There is always next week. Ali, Jake, Randee, Abe, Jose and Oscar are all hammering away at segments somebody else owns. 6 riders, plenty of attempts, no records.

Everything below covers this week only, so his older times are not in it.

Shame of the week
 | Abe, who let Jose take Park Ave off him by 1:47. He held it coming into this week. He does not hold it now. |
Individual assessments, delivered without affection
JOSE
Five rides, 128 miles and 6,519 feet. You took 1:50 off Highlands, down to 9:52. Two personal bests this week. New best 5 min power at 353 watts. The headline from your week: Abe no longer owns Park Ave. You do, on 13:19. You lost Pacific Island North to Oscar by 44 seconds. It is 9:54 to get it back. You are in yellow with 14:49 on Ali, and every week you do not extend it is a week somebody else gets closer.
ALI
Six rides, 111 miles and 7,684 feet. You hit Portola KOM Climb once and did not improve. Starcrest was yours until this week. Oscar went 4:17 and it is his problem to defend now, not yours. Once at Quail Hill Sprint Climb this week and no improvement. 2:16 still stands, 4 seconds off Jake. Two segments with no time on them this year. Not slow times, no times. Dump Hill is the one that costs you most, at about 1:21. Plenty of season left, which is exactly why it gets wasted.
OSCAR
Six rides, 99 miles and 4,675 feet. First time down Pacific Island North in 9:54. Three personal bests this week. Pacific Island North is yours. 9:54, by 44 seconds of Jose, who held it coming into this week. You attacked Pacific Island South once this week and came up 25 seconds short of Jose. You did take a personal best out of it. About 20:10 is sitting on the table for you, and all of it is in segments you have simply not ridden this year. Plenty of season left, which is exactly why it gets wasted.
JAKE
Down to four on GC this week. Three was yours seven days ago. Three rides, 128 miles and 5,210 feet. You took 55 seconds off Torrey Pines, down to 8:47. Once at Irvine Speedway this week and no improvement. 1:10 still stands, 3 seconds off Jose. 128 miles against your own 78 average. Something has got into you and the rest of them should hope it wears off. Oscar is 55 seconds up the road in third. That is one good segment, not a rebuild.
ABE
Down to five on GC this week. Four was yours seven days ago. Four rides, 91 miles and 3,701 feet. You took 16 seconds off Quail Hill Sprint Climb, down to 2:20. Jose took Park Ave off you by 1:47 this week. You held that one coming in and you do not hold it now. Once at Jeronimoooo! this week and no improvement. 0:53 still stands, 7 seconds off Oscar. You are fastest on three segments, and Portola KOM Climb is one of them.
RANDEE
Down to six on GC this week. Five was yours seven days ago. Six rides, 128 miles and 5,712 feet. You hit Torrey Pines once and did not improve. You went at Quail Hill Sprint Climb once this week and did not beat your own 2:14, which is still 2 seconds off Jake. Six segments have you at the bottom of the sheet. 19:19 covers the whole gap to the race lead.
Stop missing segments by accident. Two minutes, once:
1. Star all 21 segments on Strava. They are all linked from the site. Starred segments sync to your head unit.
2. Turn on Live Segments on your Garmin or Wahoo. It warns you before one starts and counts you down through it, so you know you are on the clock instead of finding out on Sunday.
A segment you never knew you were riding is scored as a DNS, and a DNS costs the slowest time plus ten percent.
